Susan’s Story

You know those crazy speed-dating events where people have to squeeze in as much information about themselves as possible in order to make a good first impression in a short amount of time? I kinda feel like I’m at one of those right now. Here goes…

My name is Susan, I’m a Taurus, and I like long walks on the beach. I was born in Washington DC, and grew up in Alexandria, VA and Pittsburgh, PA. I majored in writing and minored in sociology at University of California, San Diego where I met my husband Kevin. We married shortly after graduation and had three amazing kids in less than five years. Needless to say I was pretty busy doing the “mom thing” for a decade or so before waking up one day to realize I was closer to forty than thirty and still hadn’t achieved many of the dreams I’d dreamed for myself as a girl. I made a list of forty of them. Number forty was, “write a book”—which I did. The FabYOUList: List It, Live It, Love Your Life is all about how I crossed numbers one through thirty-nine off of that list and what I learned along the way. In the process of “living my list” I re-styled my life, incorporating lots of my adventures into my regular day-to-day. I became more me,
and my life changed drastically.

I went from being a suburban soccer mom to being a lifestyle expert, author, and on-air personality, with articles appearing on websites like The Daily Muse, Huff Post Women, and Forbes Woman as well as in magazines like OK!, Star, and SHAPE. I also parlayed my goal of “get a paid acting job” into an ongoing gig as a commercial actor and have appeared in television, radio, print, and Internet campaigns for Mr. Coffee, DirecTV, and NuBrilliance, and Jewel Osco among others, and I’ve done cooking segments with chefs Bobby Flay and Curtis Stone. I’m honored to be an autism advocate and volunteer for ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today), a passion that developed from yet another goal on that list of mine, “get involved with a cause I believe in.” I currently live in Los Angeles, California with my husband Kevin, our three kids Kayla, Rory, and Aidan, and our three dogs (yes… I did say three—I’m that lady). I’m working on my next book, so check back for updates on that and other fun developments!
