Maybe you haven’t heard, but it’s National Better Breakfast Month. And to get into the spirit, I visited one of my favorite morning shows, San Diego Living, and shared a few time saving tips that will make mornings more manageable so that you and your family can put breakfast back on the menu!
1. Pack and Pick. Have your kids pack their back packs the and lunches the night before, and pick out what they want to wear to school. This is a good idea for briefcases, and work attire too–for those of us who may or may not change our minds about our outfits 50 times before we leave for work!
2. Prep Ahead. Wash and slice fruit, put granola into bowls, and have the breakfast table set before you go to bed. That way, in the morning, all you have to do is sit down and eat!
3. Make it Fun. Kids are more likely to eat what they’ve had a hand in making. So why not let them assemble their own funny face waffles? Or create a high protein Greek yogurt parfait. Did you know you can make scrambled eggs in the microwave? It’s true! Scramble a couple of eggs in a microwave safe bowl, sprinkle in cheese and any diced veggies you’d like (again, prep those the night before!), microwave on high for 45 seconds, stir, and microwave on high for another 45 seconds. Voila! Breakfast in under 2 minutes!
4. Take it to Go. If you really can’t even find 2 minutes to make something, keep a stash of no-prep, no-refrigeration needed items in a basket or on a tray on your kitchen counter or by the front door. It’s the healthy way to do “take out”!
